ALLISON RICE
|
Allison Rice Therapy & Associates began as Allison Rice's private practice in Vancouver in 2010 and has expanded to include an office in Courtenay and a growing team of counselling associates and pracitcum students to offer counselling services at varied rates and with a wide range of expertise. If your budget or schedule does not allow for sessions with Allison Rice, rest assured that Allison has personally screened her team of colleagues to ensure all incoming clients can receive quality counselling.
Some of the Associates may still be in practicum stages of their education, which means they can offer supervised counselling services at reduced rates. If you have any questions about finding a counsellor that is a fit with your particular concerns, please do not hesitate to make contact. Allison Rice is a Registered Clinical Counsellor which means that sessions with her are typically covered by Third Party Benefits. Check with your benefits provider to see if RCC appointments are covered. NOTE: we do not do direct billing; clients to submit receipts upon payment to their provider for reimbursement. |

Allison (she/her) began her counselling career in Vancouver while working with families struggling with the impacts of substance misuse. She was part of many non-profit teams: Mental Health Outreach counselling on the North Shore, the Child Psychiatric Unit at BC Children’s Hospital; Vancouver Coastal Health Mental Health and Addictions and still actively holds a contract with the BC Responsible and Problem Gambling Program.
Allison Rice currently works as an Individual & Family Therapist in her own private practice and oversees a growing team of Counselling Associates. She sees clients in Vancouver and in the Comox Valley, as well as meeting with clients over the phone and online. “Online has surprised me in that it has offered such an intimate way of connecting with people. Not to mention the convenience of clients saving time and avoiding traffic, parking hassles while being in the comfort of their own homes."
When asked to share about why she works in this field, Allison expresses herself emphatically and wholeheartedly “I believe that change IS possible and that people can find freedom from their struggles no matter how deeply entrenched the patterns have become or how slight the change might need to be.”

Personal
Growing up Allison played a ton of sports while learning the violin among many other things. She played with Badminton Canada and was Athlete of the Year at Douglas College in 1999. She then spent a few years traveling and working as a musician and performer in a circus in Toronto. Allison continues to play violin with her friends and badminton as time permits. She is incredibly engaged with her family and spends much of her free time with her husband, sisters, parents, niece and nephew.

Sandra’s strength is in building trusting and respectful therapeutic relationships with the people she supports. She says, “I believe in an individual’s desire to turn towards their experiences in life and be free to live with their experiences of the past into their present with less negative impact. To explore ways to sustain our well-being in our present relationships with ourselves and others.” Sandra’s personal growth has taken her on an exploration of mindfulness, meditation and taking the time to pause, listen and pay attention to the present. She loves to carry the wisdom and traditions of the grandmothers of her family, taking time to garden, cook, be with family and welcoming all friends to the table.
“We all carry within us our places of exile, our crimes, our ravages. Our task is not to unleash them on others and on the world. It is to transform them, to meet them with compassion in ourselves and others.” - Albert Camus
